About Natalia y Maka

Hailing from the Andalusian region of Spain, Natalia y Maka are a songwriting duo whose music bridges the gap between contemporary pop and traditional flamenco. Both girls began playing music at an early age. Natalia Santos, the group's chief instrumentalist, enrolled at a Spanish music conservatory at nine years old and quickly learned several instruments, including viola, guitar, and piano. Meanwhile, Macarena Parro discovered her vocal talent while singing Laura Pausini songs as a young girl. She later participated in Lluvia de Estrellas, a televised talent contest in the vein of Star Search. Banding together, Natalia y Maka began building an audience online, where the video for their first song, "Cuánto Daría," racked up more than two million views on YouTube. They continued recording songs and releasing well-received albums, earning comparisons to other flamenco-pop groups like Los Caños, Andy y Lucas, and Kiko y Shara. ~ Andrew Leahey
