About The Myddle Class

Formed in 1965 in New Jersey, USA, the Myddle Class comprised Dave Palmer, Charles Larkey, Mike Rosa, Danny Mansolino and Rob Phillip. They played at many of New York’s leading clubs, including the Night Owl and Cafe Au Go Go, and the group was signed to songwriters Carole King and Gerry Goffin’s label, Tomorrow Records. The first Myddle Class release appeared in December 1965. ‘Free As The Wind’ was a sumptuous hybrid of Goffin/King’s commercial instincts and garage-styled folk rock, but despite positive reviews, it failed to sell. ‘Don’t Let Me Sleep Too Long’ - a song later popularised by the Blues Project - was issued in 1966. This driving single reflected the Myddle Class’ live sound, but once again it was not a success. It was backed by the haunting ‘I Happen To Love’, subsequently covered by the Electric Prunes. Fourteen months passed before the final Myddle Class single was released. ‘Don’t Look Back’ was originally recorded by the Temptations, but the group managed to instil their own personality into their rendition. Sadly, by this point (1967) their collective will to continue was ebbing, and the Myddle Class split up soon after its release. However, a previously unissued master, ‘Lovin’ Season’, appeared on a 1970 compilation Rock And Roll With Buddah. Mike Rosa became a house producer for Elektra Records, while Dave Palmer joined Steely Dan. Charles Larkey was later a member of the Fugs, City and Jo Mama and, during the 70s, was married to Carole King.
