About Ycare

Ycare is a French pop singer/songwriter who made his full-length solo debut in 2009 with the album Au Bord du Monde after rising to fame in 2008 as a contestant on the television reality show Nouvelle Star. Born Assane Attié on September 21, 1983, in Dakar, Senegal, he learned to play guitar and harmonica at a young age. He cites influences that include French chanson legends such as Jacques Brel and Serge Gainsbourg as well as contemporary British rock bands such as Radiohead and Muse. He appeared as a contestant on the sixth season of Nouvelle Star in 2008 and finished as the fourth-place runner-up behind first-place winner Amandine. In his final appearance on the show, during the quarter finals on the night of May 28, 2008, he performed the songs "Déshabillez-Moi" by Juliette Gréco and "The Show Must Go On" by Queen. In the aftermath of his strong showing on Nouvelle Star, Ycare was offered a recording deal with the Sony Music label Jive and made his full-length solo album debut in 2009 with Au Bord du Monde. Produced by Olivier Lude and written in conjunction with Matthieu Mendès, Au Bord du Monde peaked at number 21 on the French albums chart and spawned the singles "Alison" and "J'y Crois Encore." ~ Jason Birchmeier
