What's New in Version 2.8.14
+ Bug fix
iCloud sync broken
I do like this app, but I have to give it one star right now because iCloud sync between devices has been broken for me for weeks. Example: earlier this week, I added a bunch of new shows I wanted to try to my iPhone. I also deleted a bunch of shows I was never listening to that were just taking up space with new episodes each week that I wasn't going to listen to. When I opened Downcast on my Mac, it detected the new shows I had added on my iPhone but failed to delete the old shows I had removed from my iPhone. When I opened Downcast on my iPad, after it said everything was up to date, it hadn't even added any of the new podcasts I added on my iPhone nor had it removed any of the shows I deleted from my iPhone. Episode sync has been hit or miss lately as well. Sometimes, I can start a show on my iPhone, pause it, and an hour or several days later, pick up where I left off with Downcast on my Mac. That's how it's supposed to work. Lately, though, I'll pause an episode on my iPhone, launch Downcast on my Mac, it will say everything is updated on the Mac, and yet, when I double click the podcast I had been listening to, it starts playing from the beginning on the Mac. Yes, I have all the iCloud toggles on all of my devices turned on and all of my devices are using the same iTunes account. iCloud sync appears to be very broken at least for me.
Most SOLID podcast app I've ever used!!!
I spent a long time trying to make due with the standard iTunes podcast app, but it just didn't make the cut. It was slow, clunky and difficult to use.
A friend suggested I try Downcast and I could not be happier or more pleased with the app. I use it exclusively to listen to podcasts!
I am a heavy to moderate podcast listener and am subscribed to as many as 30 different podcasts. Downcast keeps me listening with as solid and easy to use an app as I have seen.
It downloads new podcasts automatically and allows you to scrub forward or backwards in a podcast at pretty much any speed you could hope for. It also lets you adjust the listening speed. All episode notes hyperlinks and art work are easily accessible from the app!
As a sidenote if you have sensitive eyes like me, you will love the color choices for the palette of the app. Everything is clearly displayed and very easy on the eyes!
Wow - Just awesome!!
Within a few hours of downloading this app, I had decided to make a clean break from using iTunes as my repository of podcasts. My prior process was to have iTunes download the podcasts, manage them via various smart playlists, sync them to my phone at least once daily, and them make "on the go" playlists on the phone itself to have them play in a particular order when I drive.
This app does all that, automatically. You can assign priorities to podcasts, and create one playlist that queues up your episodes, in priority order (plus many other selectable ways).
The amount of configuration that is possible is tremendous.
Episodes download in the background. Played episodes are jettisoned. All automatically.
