Not as great as the old app

I suppose this isn't the place to complain about the change to the basic vs premium membership. The severe restrictions on basic membership caches means some of my geocaching buddies won't participate any more.
Apart from that, I like that the map moves with you, once you tap through a few screens to get it to center on current location. But I find it harder to use than the old app. In the sunlight, parts of the app (esp. light letters on dark background) become invisible in the sun. Not good when all you've got is an iPhone.
That you no longer have a list of what caches you've done means that when my get-partner and I do a bunch, we have to go home to our computers and try to figure out if each of us logged all the caches. We used to be able to check the app.
I find what I assume to be encouraging statements by the app to instead be patronizing. It's annoying to be told that I'm within 30 ft of a cache and to put down my phone and start looking, especially when the cache turns out to be 90 ft away. I don't need the "encouragement" that comes with finding a cache: the smiley is all I need.
There's more, but this is already overly long. It's what you need to geocache. Hopefully, all the features of the old app will be put on this one, and the old premium membership rules (cache owners decide what's premium and what isn't) are reinstated.

Great fun, but dreadfully slow performance

I absolutely love geocaching, but the amount of time it takes load nearby caches, and how slow the cache information page is, is a serious turn off. The page stutters and skips even trying to scroll through information on a particular cache. I must say that I also really miss the original geocaching app's way of loading nearby caches, with the user pressing a button in order to load more. As is, it seems like it's constantly trying to update the map, and it's sucking battery and time when I just want to jump quickly to check on available caches on the other side of town.
The layout of information is excellent, but all the lagging and excessive battery drain are crippling the app.

I kinda like it.

I was disturbed at first that I would need to learn my way around a new app, but after a twenty cache run yesterday, I can say that I'm pleased with the new app. With that being said, I do most of my "heavy lifting" with my Garmin, and use the app for fill ins when I'm out and about. Yes, there are a few minor bugs, most notably for me, was the inability to give a favorite point when I logged the cache. I had to go back and do that from the site.
I have no problem with the premium membership being needed. As a cache owner, I really dislike that my containers get stolen on occasion by people with nothing better to do than get a free membership and go round up ammo cans.
All in all, I think this new app will be fine, once the inevitable bugs get worked out.
