Welcome back to Vice City. Welcome back to the 1980s.
From the decade of big hair, excess and pastel suits comes a story of one man's rise to the top of the criminal pile. Vice City, a huge urban sprawl ranging from the beach to the swamps and the glitz to the ghetto, was one of the most varied, complete and alive digital cities ever created. Combining open-world gameplay with a character driven narrative, you arrive in a town brimming with delights and degradation and given the opportunity to take it over as you choose.
To celebrate its 10 year anniversary, Rockstar Games brings Grand Theft Auto: Vice City to mobile devices with high-resolution graphics, updated controls and a host of new features including:

Assorted Bug Fixes
For a game I spent years playing on a console, I was very impressed on how well they formatted it to fit on a device like my iPhone. I'm a big time console player so I didn't know how playable it could be on an iPhone. The controls, what were they gonna be like? I was very pleased on how well the controls were set up. I was able to quickly get used to them and get right into the game. Now there were a few bugs like the graphics not loading properly, but what do you do you expect. A big game like this on a little iPhone is bound to have a few problems. Anyway it's not like it happened all the time. If you are a fan of GTA, especially Vice City, which would be why you are reading the reviews for it right now, I say get it. If you have no other way of playing it like me, and have been dying to play it, why not get it? Vice City was my favorite game out of the series. I enjoyed every GTA game, but prefer Vice City that much more. It feels great to be able to play Vice City again. So many memories are coming back to me. Vice City will always be my favorite.
Brings back childhood memories + serious review
I originally played GTA: VC on PS2 with my father when I was 11 or 12. Back then all I wanted to do was drive around and shoot people while my father actually did the missions. Occasionally we would take turns on the harder missions. I've kept saying to myself that I would take out my PS2 again and seriously play through the game, but that never happened. I'm happy, but worried, to say that I spent most of the day playing this app.
So far it is a seamless transition to a mobile platform. I'm playing this on an iPad 2 and every once in a while the game slows down, but a simple pause and resume breaks the cycle and its running fine. I think its just from loading too many items and the pause dumps previously loaded items. Movement make take a bit of getting used to, as with most mobile games. Controls are configurable including their position on screen. Overall a great game and would highly recommend to anyone, especially those who played the console version.
Surprisingly faithful to the original, it also appears that the developers take advantage of the "app update" approach that is now the norm in order to persistently keep updating/improving on the title in ways that they simply could not before in a consistent manner, especially in the controls area. And at only five bucks, it seems a super buy.
The only thing that would make this title even better: there is a GTA "clone" game on here (its name escapes me at the moment) which still has better gameplay than this one due to the fact that they have a "steering" control scheme which allows you to simply move your phone back and forth in order to literally steer your car. I was expecting this updated version of Vice City to have taken a cue from that and to include that also, and I am genuinely surprised and terribly disappointed that they have not. It's a shame, too. :(
Hopefully they'll put in an update with that too, and THEN I'll most certainly rate this as a full five-star title, as then it will be absolutely perfect. ;)
