Initial reaction is mixed but I
For the most part, this is what I was looking for. I like to keep the counter visible (I have three monitors, so space is not much of an issue) because I work from home and I find that seeing the clock ticking away out of the corner of my eye helps keep me on task. I also wanted it to retain the hours whenever I restarted my computer or quit and restarted the program, which it appears to.
The major issue right now is that there's no way to view the total time spent on a project without exporting to excel or numbers. The solution is: instead of a start stop/button, I'd like the option to switch to a pause/resume button. The log can still work the same way it does now, but this app would be far better if I could set the counter to show the total logged hours for a particular activity and continue to add time as I start and stop working.
The only other request I have is for greater customization with the counter. I have a lot of screen realestate, but It'd still be cool if I could shrink/expand the counter depending on what windows I have open.
Hopefully the developer is responsive and is interested in improving their app with customer feedback. We shall see.
Too rigid to be truly useful, needs option to make changes/enter manually
This program is super easy to set up and use, and does help me keep track of my billable hours, but only to a point. There are a couple simple additions that I think would make the program much more useful. For example, sometimes I don't remember to hit the start button until I've already been working, but there is no way to alter the start and stop times manually within the UI (that I can find, anyway). Also, if I am doing work away from the computer there is no way for me to enter those hours later from within the UI. Note: You CAN enter changes in the log file, it just adds an extra step that would be nice to skip.
Bottom line: If you do all of your work on the computer and are religious about hitting start and stop at the right times, this would be perfect for you. If you might forget to hit start or stop at the exact right times, or if you do some hours away from the computer, this program might complicate things for you a tiny bit, because you will have to keep track of the "mistakes" and the missing hours that you can't enter from within the program and then enter them into your log file.
I started working as an independent contractor and needed something that would keep track of my time working on tasks by the minute. Most apps track by the minute but the one thing they were all lacking was the start and end time of when I was doing the tasks. My jobs that I do require me to input the exact time I started and ended the task. Worktime allows me to do just that and just for $0.99! Thank you!!
