Reseña de álbum

Many of Ray Anthony's moody dancing albums, despite their general high quality, are very similar. Ray Anthony Plays for Star Dancing comes as a bit of a surprise, then, in that it is really quite different. Instead of weaving a tapestry of gauzy sound that blankets the entire album, Anthony varies the pattern considerably. "When Your Love Has Gone" features subdued orchestral backing over which Anthony solos on trumpet, sounding just like Jackie Gleason's Music, Martinis, and Memories. "Moon Over Miami" is sung by the Belvederes with an uncredited female lead, and "Autumn in New York" is a light cocktail piano piece. The Belvederes sing four numbers, and the remaining instrumentals are mellow but brighter and less moody than Anthony's typical dream dancing fare, recalling his days with Glenn Miller. The listener's opinion of Ray Anthony Plays for Star Dancing can go either way depending on his or her preference for Anthony's early big-band orchestrations or later mood music, since it lacks the hypnotic quality of his later albums but is more down-to-earth and traditional in its pop presentation.
