Light is an interactive textbook aimed at students aged from 10 to 14, featuring an inter-disciplinary, active and dynamic approach to the phenomenon of light.

Light is a physical phenomenon, but it is also one of the raw materials for art and a basic component to the workings of countless electronic devices we use every day. Light is found in all of its forms across all areas of our everyday life, conditioning our natural and cultural environment.

In order to provide a comprehensive and relevant approach to light’s complexity, this book features a transversal vision of the nature and applications of light based on four distinct thematic axes, each of them conceived of in terms of the academic fields of Technology, Visual and Fine Art, Social Science and Natural Science.

The first chapter, Impressions, uses art as a basis from which to introduce a global and comprehensive study of the phenomenon of color and its relationship with light. The second chapter, Distortions, begins with an outlining of the basic principles of the reflection and refraction of light in order to trace a path through the multiple applications of these light phenomena in society, science and culture. The third chapter, Illuminations, introduces a vision of light from the perspective of natural science: as a source of life, energy and also culture. The fourth and final chapter, Visions, analyzes the anatomy and physiology of the human eye and the technology and workings of cameras in order to understand how both capture and process light so as to convert it into images.
