Bansuri Dreams is a set of acoustic atmospheres from John Wubbenhorst. It is a crossover of three styles — new age, world, and meditative/healing. The main effects come from — well — the bansuri flute. There are other instruments that enhance the tone: sitars, kodos, and percussion. The recording and mixing techniques and the natural sonority of the flute give this disc electronic timbre. The organic textures will appeal to fans of Hariprasad Chaurasia, Steve Gorn and John McLaughlin's Shakti.

John Wubbenhorst was born in Norwalk, CT, November 28, 1957. He started his musical journey playing guitar and piano, but gravitated toward the metal alto flute as he learned from Juilliard instructor Kim Haley and took composition tutelage from Darius Brubeck. At 15 he enrolled in the Berklee College of Music summer program, where he discovered East Indian ragas and the mysterious spiritual folkloric sounds of the Pacific Rim. His next few years led him to the University of Iowa, where he studied...
