Album Review

The debut album by The Crickets and the only one featuring Buddy Holly released during his lifetime, Buddy Holly And The Crickets (a 1962 reissue of the 1957 album The "Chirping" Crickets) contains the group's #1 single "That'll Be The Day" and its Top 10 hit "Oh, Boy!" Other Crickets classics include "Not Fade Away," "Maybe Baby," and "I'm Looking For Someone To Love." The rest of the 12 tracks are not up to the standard set by those five, but those five are among the best rock 'n' roll songs of the 1950s or ever, making this one of the most significant album debuts in rock 'n' roll history, ranking with Elvis Presley and Meet The Beatles. (Originally released on LP under the title The "Chirping" Crickets on the Decca Records subsidiary Brunswick [as Brunswick 54038] on November 27, 1957, Buddy Holly And The Crickets was reissued on the Decca Records subsidiary Coral [as Coral 757405] in April 1962. It was reissued on CD under its original title by MCA Records in 1987.)
