Newton Faulkner’s acoustic charm has been warming souls and campfires since his 2007 debut, Hand Built by Robots. Here, Faulkner’s vocals take centre stage. The guitars remain delicately picked and the soothing melodies still soar in all the right places, but he’s unleashed a rawness to his voice. It suits him, and injects a fresh dynamism to this soulful sixth record. The title track is at once minimalist and uplifting, and “Finger Tips” reveals a sensual side, while the yearning “Carry You” takes it to church.
