Album Review

Released in 1969 as part of the RCA Vintage series, this LP was the second of two that featured music from Paul Whiteman's popular orchestra. Although superceded by later collections, this is a worthy (and jazz-oriented) set. There are five numbers from 1928 featuring cornetist Bix Beiderbecke (and sometimes Bing Crosby and the Rhythm Boys), 1920's "Wang Wang Blues," a trio of pre-Bix selections from 1927, two 1932 vocals from Mildred Bailey, a rare version of "It's Only a Paper Moon" from 1933 that has a short solo by trumpeter Bunny Berigan and two 1935 selections with trombonist-singer Jack Teagarden.
