Thomas A. Dorsey wrote enough sanctified classics that he’s long been considered The Father of Gospel Music. This 1973 collection provides a neat place to hear both his songs and testimony: Throughout the album, Dorsey recollects some key moments from his own journey, while beloved compositions like “Take My Hand, Precious Lord”, “(There’ll Be) Peace in the Valley” and “What Could I Do If It Wasn’t for the Lord” are given vibrant readings by The Dixie Hummingbirds, Marion Williams and other gospel greats.
