This is the real deal: A spirited, sanctified gospel music concert that’s full of handclapped beats, jaunty piano, church organs, full-choir singing and sizzling solos—bandleader Walter and wife Tremaine going toe-to-toe and trying their hardest to out-sing each other. The whole album drips with soul and conviction, whether in sweaty ravers like “God Is Standing By” or in easygoing, benedictory ballads like “I’m Not the Same”. And just try not to bob your head along with “I Love the Lord”, which brilliantly interpolates lines from classic spirituals and hymns.

The younger brother of gospel vocalist and choir director Edwin Hawkins, Bishop Walter Hawkins was one of gospel's most successful performers. The leader of the Love Center Choir, Hawkins led the group to two Dove Awards, presented by the Gospel Music Association, and multiple Grammy nominations.
