Album Review

With an album like More Beer, it's important to remember that sometimes music is not meant to be taken too seriously. While not the most crucial document from one of the pioneers of early-'80s California hardcore (that would be their first album), it's certainly a hell of a lot of fun. Suffice it to say, More Beer is a party record, best played loud, and best heard over, well, you guessed it, beer.

Along with Black Flag and the Circle Jerks, Fear helped define the sound and style of L.A. hardcore. Although they actually formed during the first wave of punk back in 1977, Fear didn't release an album until five years later, by which time they'd honed a blistering, thrashy attack that, for all its fury, was surprisingly tight and sometimes even intricate.
