2007's Open Letter to a Friend is the sixth studio record by tenacious German rock band H-Blockx. Originally H-Blockx started out in the middle of the 90's as an alternative hardcore/rap-metal band, but as the popularity of that style decreased, the sound and style of H-Blockx changed, as well. Open Letter to a Friend featured little to no rapping; instead, the band leaned in the direction of a much more melodic though still pretty muscular hard rock and clean singing.

Formed in Münster, Germany in 1991, H-Blockx was a punk-tinged alternative metal band named after Irish slang for high-security prison cells. The band's initial lineup featured singer/rapper Henning "MC-H" Wehland, guitarist Tim Tenambergen, bassist Stefan "Gudze" Hinz, and drummer Johann-Christoph "Mason" Maass; singer/rapper David Gappa was added in 1992.
