Album Review

Cano Estremera's first album for his own record label cannot escape the influence and style of his former bandleader, Bobby Valentín. It has plenty of swinging, danceable tunes (an antidote for the erotica salsa style of the times) to spare, however, and even a merengue ("Pleno Verano") for a change! A highly enjoyable effort. Salsa bandleader/vocalist Cano Estremera (also known as White Estremera or "the White One," since he is albino) was born Carlos Enrique Estremera Columbus on September 2, 1958, in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Estremera discovered his love of music and singing as a youngster, when he would sing religious hymns in school, which eventually led to Estremera uniting with renowned bassist and trumpeter Bobby Valentin in 1978.
