Editors’ Notes

A certified OG with 20 years in the game, Prodigy has one of hip-hop's deadliest and most instantly recognizable voices: an ice-cold monotone that has been showcased on countless landmark murder raps. While he's done a gang of albums and mixtapes with Havoc as Mobb Deep, he's also dropped several quality solo joints. Two of them—the first H.N.I.C. (released in 2000) and 2007's Alchemist collabo Return of the Mac—are straight classics. Fresh off a three-year bid for weapons possession, Prodigy now sounds rejuvenated and hungry. Here he serves up 16 tracks full of grimy goodness, with vivid tales of nefarious street business, female domination, and various strategies for long-term financial success. Some of the production is a little lighter and more diverse than usual, but P sounds as menacing as ever. Highlights include "Live," "Let Me Show You," and "Get Money," while features come from Wiz Khalifa, T.I., Havoc, Willie Taylor, Vaughn Anthony, and more.

H.N.I.C., Pt. 2 landed in 2008, just as the rapper was beginning a three-and-a-half-year sentence on unlawful gun possession charges. He would use the time in prison to work on his autobiography, My Infamous Life,...
