This two-disc set, clocking in at nearly two hours in length, features 41 previously unreleased Thesaurus transcriptions made between 1949-52. The title is apt; Beneke, a former vocalist and tenor saxophonist for Glenn Miller, carried on the tradition of his former boss and, while not exactly replicating Miller's sound, came close enough that casual listeners would be hard pressed to discern between the two. Ranging from soft big band jazz to swinging dance numbers with and without a variety of vocalists, these half-century old transcriptions sound simply great. Recommended for enthusiasts of Miller's wartime band and essential for followers of Tex Beneke.
