Norwegian rap duo Karpe Diem were founded in 2000 in Oslo, Norway, by Egyptian-Norwegian Magdi Omar Ytreeide Abdelmaguid and Indian-Norwegian Chirag Rashmikant Patel. A politically charged, formidable concert draw, the pair have performed live with DJ Marius Thingvald and Something Sally. Karpe Diem debuted in 2004 with the six-track Glasskår EP on Tuba Records. A Top Ten hit on the Norwegian singles chart, Glasskår paved the way for a recording contract with Bonnier Music. Karpe Diem subsequently made their full-length album debut in 2006 with Rett Fra Hjertet, which hit number ten on the albums chart and spawned the hit single "Piano." Released in 2008, the follow-up album Fire Vegger was also a success, rising all the way to number three on the albums chart and spawning a series of hit singles ("Under Overflaten," "Fireogtyvegods," "Stjerner," "Vestkantsvartinga"), most of which were Top Ten hits. After winning an MTV award for Best Norwegian Act in 2010, they donated the award proceeds to the Red Cross and performed a free concert for their young fans. Their third album, Aldri Solgt En Løgn, went quadruple platinum, winning Spellemannprisens (Norwegian Grammys) for Best Hip-Hop Album and Hit of the Year for "Ruter." They embarked on a sold-out tour and even performed at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in 2012. That same year, they won another Spellemann prize, this time for Best Pop Album for Kors På Halsen, Ti Kniver I Hjertet, Mor og Far I Døden, their second chart-topping LP. Three years later, they began their Heisann Montebello project, releasing a steady string of Top Ten singles well into 2016. ~ Jason Birchmeier & Neil Z. Yeung
