About King of Spain
King of Spain began in 2007 as a solo project for Tampa, Florida songwriter Matt Slate, formerly of bands such as Pohgoh. Slate performed alone with guitar and laptop accompaniment, completing first album Entropy in 2008. Entropy was a highly insular affair, combining ambient soundscapes with Brian Wilson-esque harmonies, appropriated by Slate's husky multitracked voice. In 2009 the band expanded to a duo with the addition of Daniel Wainright on bass and a variety of other instruments. They next surfaced in the form of 2012 sophomore release All I Did Was Tell Them te Truth and They Thought It Was Hell. This extensively-titled album was funded in part by online pledges from fans, and took a turn toward the darker side of the pop ambient pop spectrum. ~ Fred Thomas
