About Shawn Phillips

Texas-born singer-songwriter Shawn Phillips never achieved the mainstream stardom of contemporaries like Cat Stevens or James Taylor, but his intelligent brand of folk and classical-tinged pop-rock has maintained a devoted cult of fans over the decades. After two traditional folk-rock albums, 1964's I'M A LONER and 1965's SHAWN, Phillips moved to England and signed with A&M Records. Phillips' 1970-'77 tenure at A&M is the core of his career, including the heavily orchestrated CONTRIBUTION and SECOND CONTRIBUTION, and the more rock-oriented FACES (1972) and BRIGHT WHITE (1973). Phillips has since maintained an on-and-off career with a variety of smaller labels.
