iTunes Review

With his ninth solo album, The Jam and The Style Council's former frontman makes good on the album's title with 22 songs that span the gamut of musical influences Paul Weller has absorbed in over three decades of keeping the British mod flame burning. In its entirety, 22 Dreams ambitiously attempts to mirror the changing seasons with a flowing and moving metamorphosis of textures, moods, styles, and genres. Weller eschews his "trad-rock" pigeonhole by taking on jazz, Krautrock, spoken word, electronica, blues, pop, and modern psychedelia while managing to maintain a consistency throughout (via help from Ocean Colour Scene's Steve Cradock providing a foundation of classic guitar tones). "Light Nights" introduces the album with an intimate acoustic presence that blends gypsy fiddles, hypnotic drones, and sublime vocal harmonies. Noel Gallagher and Gem Archer from Oasis cameo on the swirling and kaleidoscopic powerhouse "Echoes Around The Sun," and Graham Coxon from Blur injects his gentleman's indie rock scuzz on the strolling "Black River".

Great, even for a child !

Before I start I must tell you that I am 13. I have been listening to Wellers full catalogue for about 6 months and after listening to albums like Stanley Road and Wild Wood, I wasnt sure if he could top them. But in true style he brings out this album. Heard 22 Dreams at his concert and Push It Along on ....Later With Jools... and I couldn't wait for this album and true to its name it's like having 22 Dreams in one great night. Well Done Weller.

As the leader of the Jam, Paul Weller fronted the most popular British band of the punk era, influencing legions of English rockers ranging from his mod revival contemporaries to the Smiths in the '80s and Oasis in the '90s. During the final days of the Jam, he developed a fascination with Motown and soul, which led him to form the sophisti-pop group the Style Council in 1983.
