Willis Jackson: 40+ Jazz Classics

The music here comes from seven complete Prestige LPs. "More Gravy", "Boss Shoutin",
"Soul night live", "Tell it.. "Thunderbird", "Cool Gator" and " Please, Mr Jackson", dating from the late 1950s and early 1960s.

All six songs from "Please, Mr Jackson" are mis-titled here
What appears as Au privave is Cool grits: Stepplechase (!) is Come back to Sorrento: Last flight is Dink's mood:
Sugan is Please Mr Jackson: Green pines is 33 Knock: and Scrapple from the Apple is Memories of you.

The music is typical of Jackson's style, close to R&B, with interesting contributions from guitarists Bill Jennings on the first three albums, and Pat Martino (aka Azzara) on the last four. Organists Freddie Roach, and Jack McDuff play on one and two albums respectively. If you like this down-to-earth, gutsy, danceable style of tenor playing, enjoy.
Incidentally, the "wrong" titles above come from songs on a Phil Woods LP "Sugan" (New Jazz NJLP 8304) How? Don't ask.
