Album Review

A low-key tour de force, Flutterby reflects an uncommon maturity and breadth of talent, particularly for a debut effort. Boucher commands all the essential instruments; more than that, she layers her parts with an ear toward sounding like a solid backup band, as opposed to showing off. Her lyrics, which adhere to the confessional/heartache model, can revolve around unanswered questions: "Could this be the day I've waited for?" she sings on "Life Is Short," with the more enigmatic "What do I do?" in "I Can't Make Me" and "Can you see the lights?" elevated to prominence as a song title. While she doesn't overdo it, this does contribute to an impression of less than piercing insight; songs like "Soul Back" come across as clever more than profound or even poetic. Still, her hooks are strong, her vocal delivery assertive, and aside from a few mellow Joni Mitchell moments in her articulation and phrasing on "Drift On," Flutterby bristles with an agreeable, upbeat energy. [THe U.K. edition of the album includes two bonus tracks: "For a Song" and "Gift Wrap".]~ Robert L. Doerschuk, Rovi

Number One

There is absolutely no denying how utterly amazing Butterfly Boucher is. Shes original, catchy, intelligent and talented. She has a warm, welcoming voice and every twang of a guitar string or piano key laid down brings happiness to my day. Just the happiest, most exciting artist out there. Love it!

I've seen her live and she is as good as when recorded!

Butterfly Boucher was a never heard of artist to me until I saw her as a supporting act at a concert. She came on the stage, guitar in hand and just belted out the songs, they were catchy, original and fabulous. I bought the album and am a big fan now.......can't wait for a new album release or a new tour!!! Buy this album, you won't regret it and you will find yourself singing them for ages! One of my all time favourite albums!!! You need it in your ipod!

Absolutely Fantastic *****

Wow, like most, i discovered Butterfly when she was supporting Sarah McLachlan here in Cardiff. She was fantastic. Acoustic in hand, her voice echoed around St Davids hall, and every word she sang gave me goosebumps. Her style is funky, rock with some of the catchiest lyrics you will come across, not to mention, she is fit! 'Another White Dash' is one of my faves, and will get your feet tapping, and you will be hungry for more. The whole album is stunning, her voice is to die for, please, take my word for it, BUY THIS ALBUM.

Biography

Years Active: '00s

Born into the middle of a seven-daughter family with creative and free-spirited parents, Butterfly Boucher received her first name courtesy of some divine intervention her mother was experiencing. A picture on an elementary school wall, a print on a dance teacher's leotard, and a 45 rpm single of "The Butterfly Song" (brought home by one of Mrs. Boucher's other daughters) all pointed to the name. Butterfly's father had pursued a professional career in music, but when that failed, all their possessions...
