Editors’ Notes

When Jurassic Five signed to a major label, it didn't signal the end of an era, it meant a new life and a new direction for this L.A. crew. Their growth, both musical and personal, is evident on Power of Numbers. "If You Only Knew" shows what J-5 does so well-voices rhyming in tandem and solo-espousing knowledge and superior content superimposed over a fluttering piper. Big things were on their mind on songs such as "Freedom," "Remember His Name," and "I Am Somebody." A strong follow-up to their debut, Quality Control.

Customer Reviews

A genuinely fantastic album

I love this album. J5 have been around for a little while, but I think they reached their peak in this album. Intelligent lyrics with a touch of social conscience thrown in for good measure. "What's Golden", for me, is the stand-out track on this album. Nelly Furtado (remember her?) pops up on "Thin Line", and "A Day at the Races" shows clearly that you can rap quickly without losing the sense or sounding ridiculous (q.v. some of Dizzee Rascal's incomprehensible stuff). I would recommend everyone buys all three of their albums - you won't be disappointed. After all, Chali 2na is a god!

They just keep rolling out the classics!

This is, like the last two previous albums by J5, an instant hippety-hoppety classic! buy now, thank me later.

Good Stuff

This album does not dissapoint one bit.

Part of the new rap underground of the late '90s (along with Company Flow, Mos Def, Dr. Octagon, and Sir Menelik), the sextet -- rappers Marc 7even, Chali 2na, Zaakir, and Akil, plus producers Cut Chemist and DJ Nu-Mark -- came together in 1993 at the Los Angeles café/venue named the Good Life. The six members were part of two different crews, Rebels of Rhythm and Unity Committee; after collaborating...
