Drummers Take Note

I guess a lot of younger drummers may not have heard of Lenny White, not surprising considering how fast the music industry accountants churn out the relentless and annoying disposable garbage. Lenny for those that dont know, was the groove that held one of the most musically impeccable groups tight in its tracks in the shape of Return to Forever, a super group of the progressive fusion type. Here is a drummers drummer. His style is unique, diverse and incredibly musical. He is a powerhouse and yet his subtle cymbal work shimmers with fluidity when the track requires the dynamics to take hold. Im sure his band mates of the past will echo my words, in fact there is word on the street that Chick Corea is reunite RTF with its original cast..testament to all the players involved. On this album the style is a little funkier at times...a little rocky with a token of jazz for good measure. If you wonder whether if its good...Lenny dont do "Bad" (in the old fashioned sense) so play it and listen hard. Im a guitarist by the way!
