The Beat Goes On! :-(

Well I was really happy when I found The Beat Goes On song on youtube, looking for it for sometime! But when I downloaded it, its not the same as there video on youtube!!! Not happy! Guess I'll keep one looking! :-(

Flashes of genius but not all great

WIth lyrics written by Jarvis Cocker and vocals from Tony Christie (mostly forgotten at the time and touring the German cabaret circuit), Babybird and Phil Oakey this is a Sheffield album through and through. As the other review points out, the version of Beat Goes On featured here is not the original and seems to be deliberately sabotaged perhaps due to issues over the sample (?). It's a shame as the other dance moments have dated badly and seem bland in comparison to the straightforward songs.1st Man In Space features one of Jarvis best ever lyrics and a great deadpan vocal from Oakley and Nicola is dirty without being crude. Benefiting from Christie's mannered vocal. Walk like a Panter was the last great song of the 20th century. A mixed bag then but a enjoyable one.

best kept secret

Flashes of genius without a doubt. Amazed that more have not sought this out & rendered praise where it's rightfully due. Truly original and for that alone it deserves merit. For anyone who likes their pop with a touch of irony, seek out "first man in space", or those who follow Jarvis like a stalker peruse "drive safely darlin'" and if you just like to reminisce back to childhood days, "stars on sunday" is a walk down memory lane. Navigate around the fillers like "big p****r" and you'll find more pop magic than you can wave a wand at.
