Editors’ Notes

In their heyday, N Sync made a couple of tentative moves toward R&B, but nothing could have prepared fans for Justin Timberlake’s transformation into a groove-based lifeform. Justified, his debut solo album, posits him as a loose, funny (hear his instructions to female audience members on the breakdown of "Señorita") and thoroughly assured performer. In fact, the disc proved fine (as in fiiine) enough to promote discussion of Timberlake as an artist, rather than just a celebrity. Collaborating with the Neptunes and Timbaland, the star displays a high comfort level with Latin-tinged soul, Stevie Wonder-style balladry (“Nothin’ Else”), and updated ’70s pop-funk (“Rock Your Body,” which could be a lost K.C. and the Sunshine Band single). If great pop means continued payoff through many listens, as well as the occasional nudge toward the future, well then, call this one just that.

Timberlake's Talent is Justified

A fantastic debut album from Timberlake, clearly revealing his talent. Whilst I enjoy the several stand-out songs (Cry me a River, Rock Your Body, Let's Take a Ride), the others are not bad at all. The featured performances from Timbaland and Clipse are excellent, and make this a very good album to have in your collection.

1 of the best albums of the decade

Love this album, I think it's amazing, some great RnB songs, great Pop songs you can play the whole album through to the end without skipping any songs which is very very rare these, there aren't many albums I've done that with this decade!

Great first solo album from JT!! Favourites have to be Rock Your Body and Never Again!!

Justin Timberlake may be the quintessential pop star of the new millennium, a star who jumped from platform to platform on his way to establishing himself as something bigger than a star: he was a self-sustained empire. Timberlake began his rise as a TV star, performing on The New Mickey Mouse Club as a child in the '90s, but he earned his superstardom as one of the frontmen for *NSYNC, the most popular boy band of the turn of the millennium. Justin stepped away from the band just as its popularity...
