iTunes Review

Tuskegee does more than acknowledge Lionel Richie's roots; it points out the similarities of today’s country music and the R&B/pop blend he perfected 30 years ago. Drawing on his formidable list of hits, Richie pairs up with a host of Nashville veterans and newcomers, with consistently impressive results. The emphasis is on the songs themselves, with touches of fiddle and pedal steel adding downhome flavors. “Dancing on the Ceiling” and “Say You, Say Me” (featuring Rascal Flatts and Jason Aldean, respectively) work especially well in a countrified setting. Tuskegee’s guest vocalists manage to put the personal spin to even familiar tunes. Jennifer Nettles’ gospel-flavored treatment of “Hello” and Willie Nelson’s sly ‘n’ mellow take on “Easy” are among the more distinctive examples. Whether he’s harmonizing with Shania Twain on “Endless Love”, letting Darius Rucker take the lead on “Stuck on You”, or getting into an island groove with Jimmy Buffett on “All Night Long”, Richie sounds rejuvenated and completely at ease.

Llionel Richie dueting with the top country artists of today it does"nt get better than this. A great album from one of the best. Ive been playing it all morning and i"ll play it for years too come. BRILLIANT ! ! ! !

Classic songs but even better

Didn't thing these songs could be improved but he's done it

Hello, Again

For those of us brought up on Lionel Richie and The Commodores then this is a gift.. a few gripes aside (Where is Still? why 2 versions of Sail on and Say You?.. I realize one of each would have been cut in the mix, but why not just do different songs?).. this is a great reminder of classic songs and some excellent collaborations. Tim McGraw (who's version is cut on the standard edition!!!??), Kenny Chesney, Little Big Town and especially Shania Twain (welcome back) lend some fresh support and the country flavour sits well. Cover albums can be a bit hit and miss but as these are covered by the original writer and singer it works well. The only downside are some of the female vocalists (Pixie Lott??), but you can't have everything. Duet Albums seem to be doing big business at the moment (hello Tony Bennett) and i'm sure this will follow suit.. a great Sunday favourites album.. enjoy!

After leaving the Commodores, Lionel Richie became one of the most successful male solo artists of the '80s, arguably eclipsed during his 1981-1987 heyday only by Michael Jackson and Prince. Richie dominated the pop charts during that period with an incredible run of 13 consecutive Top Ten hits, five of them number ones. As his popularity skyrocketed, Richie moved further away from his R&B origins and concentrated more on adult contemporary balladry, which had been one of his strengths even as part...
