Album Review

Recorded with mentor Valery Gergiev and the Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre, The Russian Album is a heartfelt tribute to soprano Anna Netrebko's homeland's classical music legacy. The 2006 release features interpretations of classic pieces by legendary Russian composers Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov, as well as lesser-known works from the likes of Rimsky-Korsakov and Mikhail Glinka. ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi

Simply a Great Soprano

What fantastic voice. I am truly awestricken by her talent. She has done very well in Europe and has gotten great reviews from critics. I am planning to see her live as soon as it is possible for me. Highly recommended. This Russian beauty deserves all the admiration she gets.

Fantastic survey of Russian repertoire

This is a very well designed recital as, at last, Anna Netrebko gives us a recording of her native Russian reportoire. There's a tempting glimpse of her Tatyana in the Letter Scene from Tchaikovsky's 'Eugene Onegin', a role not yet in her portfolio, but one which will surely follow in a few years. There is also an excerpt from Prokofiev's 'War and Peace' as Natasha, the role in which she first became known to London audiences with the Kirov Opera. This recital contains some real rareties, such as Rimsky-Korsakov's operas - not well known in the West, but they are delightful and I cannot imagine a better advocate for widening their appeal. Gergiev and his Mariinsky Orchestra provide great support and I hope DG record more Russian opera with Netrebko soon.
