The true successor to John Barry

This score truly cements David Arnold's succession to the Bond mantle that was so long held by John Barry. The score succeeds on two levels. First the subtle Bond undertones that clearly hark back to films such as You Only Live Twice and Goldfinger - defining orchestral pieces that were Barry's hallmark (Night at the Opera is a track in point - the slow orchestral build-up). Yet these references back to the 'Bond of Old' are interwined beautifully against grittier themes which are central to the new Bond so brilliant portrayed by Daniel Craig. The mix is superb. My only criticism is that the familiar Bond signature is missing. We had to wait until the end of Casino Royale to get it and it's a shame it is not included here. Call me a traditionalist but this is Bond's signature tune. I was lucky enough to meet David Arnold at the Royal Albert Hall this year and asked him if he would be using the traditional Bond motif in the new film. His response was that he had had this discussion with the producers. Well, the outcome is clearly evident....this soundtrack clearly carries Bond DNA but this is true David Arnold. I can't wait for the next one! Well done David...let us see how you handle the next Narnia film.

Nobody Does it Better than David Arnold......

WOW! I never thought David Arnold could top Casino Royale but he did - and how !!! There are so many cues from classic John Barry Scores throughout this soundtrack (listen out for You Only Live Twice action cue in Tracks 20 & 21) and A NIght At The Opera (Track 9) is just brilliant - all this for just £5.99? Buy It Now !!!!! Well done iTunes....

Return of Bond!

Given the fact 007 has been around it has had to evolve. Certainly the newer music for Bond movies is different from the 60's, when Goldfinger really made Bond theme songs stand out as it were. The new soundtrack is not going to be to everyones liking but does fit in well within the confines of the movie. I guess we all have our own expectations and would like certain things in every Bond movie. I just find it hard to believe that in over 40 years the appeal of James Bond has managed to keep the world coming back for more. Some movies were better than others, but in this turbulent world Daniel Craig has helped to give Bond a darker edge and a bit more grit. Bond does go from strength to strength and in style!

Film composer David Arnold seems to have risen to prominence with unnerving swiftness, but this is in fact an illusion, as Arnold spent many years paying his dues by writing scores for English television and documentary film projects, many of them produced or directed by his lifelong friend Danny Cannon. In between times, Arnold tried out for the Clash and the Waterboys, but failed to get the gigs. Cannon made the move to feature directing with the 1993 film The Young Americans, tapping Arnold to...
