Customer Reviews

American soul-searching, blues-folk melodies for the end of a century...

Was almost forcibly converted to Dave Matthews Band following a long road trip around the eastern seaboard of the states in 1998, as the driver's favourite album was the above. So what? You'd be forgiven for thinking. Basically, the myriad of sights, sounds, food culture and art that we digested along the way was mirrored by the influences inherent in Dave Matthews Band and in this album in particular. Touches of blue-grass, jazz, folk and pop all come together in a focussed manner. The result being a mixture of the wistful, melancholic, euphoric and dream-like qualities that Americana (and the sounds of the South in particular) present to the infinitely curious visitor. If you like the Wonderstuff, Nilsen, Simon & Garfunkel etc, you might well enjoy this major label debut.
