Album Review

David Motion and Jesper Siberg's electronica collaboration is an epic — reminiscent of Underworld, only much more minimalist. But, very much like Underworld before them, Siberg and Motion treat electronica like pop songs. (Much in the manner David Motion has taken classical music and reworked it as pop in his own solo work.) From the opening blips and thumps of the masterful intro, "Heaven," through the grindingly mesmerizing, "Flatearth," and on to the gorgeously hypnotic "Agura," Music to Eat and Lie Down To is a sonic odyssey — taking you through soundscapes totally foreign and alien, yet somehow still firmly rooted in the familiar. Like the best electronica albums, it plays best start to finish, allowing the record to take you on its unusual musical journey. Motion's uncanny knack for melody and textures plays heavily here — this is definitely his album. And this is also one of those rare dance albums that works as well on the club floors as it does at home on headphones.
