iTunes Review

Over the course of six studio albums, Placebo has sold more than 12 millions albums worldwide and, more importantly, built a hardcore cult audience that's addicted to the group's sugar-blue rush of euphoric choruses and desperate, raging verses. Singer Brian Molko is a throwback to the days when lead singers were truly decadent creatures who lived out their fantasies of fame and money. His androgynous poses add a psycho-sexual edge to everything he sings. B3 EP is a stopgap measure, a pause before a new album is completed for 2013 release. Yet it's no sleeper. The dark, shimmering menace of "I.K.W.Y.L." captures the glam trio's strongest side. "B3" turns out another noirscape anthem that slips and slides with analog synths, shards of angry guitars, and Molko's dominating vocal. This is a group that's not afraid to put its singer way up in front. A cover of Minxus' "I Know You Want to Stop" improves the song dramatically, bringing out a stronger melody. Quite simply, London's Placebo is one of the strongest alternative rock bands that bleeds it heart out on a regular basis.

Customer Reviews

I like how they have managed to keep there 'sound' although it has changed
from there old stuff to a more of a happish type of tone, although what i think
a lot of fans would like is just a couple of deep tracks that take the listeners back
to the days were everything seemed confused, sadness fueled and almost hallucinogenic.

Still an amazing band and will always be regardless

Roll On October

Having only listened to the previews it has been worth the long wait since battle for the sun, i love the sound, so fresh yet keeping with the 'placebo style' will rate again when it comes out and then again with the whole album next year!

This is depressing.

Placebo have been my favourite band since 2007; I have been to 2 their gigs, I love them so much it's hard to describe.
What is this? Is this a bone to throw to the fans so that everyone stops bugging them for absence of new material?
"The extra" is somewhat decent, but other than that - a degrading work, they could have done so much better.
The music, the vocals - a step back to their young self when the quality wasn't so good, but there was the drive.

I will still listen to it in the lack of anything else, but no happy; depressed rather.

Update: realised, it's not the lack of skill, it's the drive that's missing!

Genre: Alternative

Due to their penchant for androgynous attire/makeup and raw, punky guitar riffs, Placebo have been described by some as a glam version of Nirvana. The multinational band was formed by singer/guitarist Brian Molko (part Scottish and American descent, but raised in England) and Swedish bassist Stefan Olsdal. Both members had previously attended the same school in Luxembourg, but they didn't cross paths properly until 1994 in London, England. Briefly called Ashtray Heart and influenced by the likes...
