iTunes Review

On their debut, Mumford & Sons showed that acoustic folk could be played as furiously as rock music. Here, they refine that formula. "I Will Wait" is one of the most satisfying anthems of the '10s—a rush of banjos and harmonies that captures the thrill of young love with just three words. Yet some of Babel's best moments are its quietest, such as the minimal "Reminder", which finds Marcus Mumford singing alone with just an acoustic guitar, recalling the plaintive tenderness of Jeff Buckley.

Oh god!

It's amazing how awful this is. They're cocky now for some reason but they will be forgotten in a years time. Folk music has a short life as its so samey.

Actually only a few new songs

I don't know how they have justified this as an NEW album when most of the songs have been released in one version or another with different ep's. I Will Wait for instance is a different version of Nothing is Written. Broken Crown is a different version of To Darkness that was released with Little Lion Man. Ghosts The We Knew has been available for as long as I remember. Lover of The Light, Lovers Eyes, Below My Feet and Hopeless Wanderer were all sang at Glastonbury in June 2011 and those versions were more punchy. It almost sounds like he cant be bothered to sing on the album versions. For any new listeners of Mumford and Sons this is a convincing album, however for any 'fans' it falls far too short.

The foursome started playing together in 2007; though they were playing with other bands at the time, they bonded over their shared love of rootsy music.
