One of the 'authentic' performances which has been around for a while, it is hard to conceive how Gardiner's interpretation could be bettered. The work is treated with the utmost respect, while, at the same time, being pacy and dramatic. Rolfe-Johnson shines through as the evangelist (listen to No 63 for example).
