About Barney Bentall

The rock group Barney Bentall & the Legendary Hearts was formed in Vancouver, Canada in 1980. Members of the band -- some who slipped in and others who slipped out over the years -- included vocalist, guitarist, and frontman Bentall, drummer Jack Guppy, guitarists Doug McFetridge and Colin Nairne, bassists Barry Muir and Kevin Swain, and keyboardists Will Froese and Cam Bowman. Bentall also worked under the pseudonym Brandon Wolf, doing a few solo offerings for fans in 1979.

Between 1980 and 1997, the group released nearly 20 singles for major record labels such as CBS and Sony, including songs like "Life Could be Worse," "The House of Love," "Nothing Hurts Like the Words," and "Family Man." There were over half a dozen albums too, including Lonely Avenue in 1990, Ain't Life Strange in 1992, and a 1997 greatest-hits album featuring Barney Bentall & the Legendary Hearts tracks from the decade between 1986 and 1996. After the group split in 1997, Bentall went on to become a cattle rancher, but he grew restless after a decade of quiet, resuming his musical career as a solo artist with the 2006 album Gift Horse. Over the next decade, he'd record regularly as well as play live, sometimes with lineups of the Legendary Hearts. ~ Charlotte Dillon
