A wonderful album of beautiful melodies , highly recommend for everyone not just genesis fans
Banks: six pieces for Orchestra
A powerful, deeply moving and innovative new album from one of the most gifted and enduring musicians of our time. The six pieces take you on a uplifting emotional journey that leaves you with tears of joy and the biggest smile on your face. It ranks alongside the towering works of the long-dead greats of classical music - something I thought no living composer could ever achieve. Well done, Tony. Very well done indeed.
A Wonderful Suite from a Wonderful Musiciain
I've been a Genesis fan for nearly 34 years and the main reason for that love affair is because of the writing and keyboard playing of one Anthony George Banks. His previous work Seven suggested that Tony had a firm grasp because of three of his greatest assets that helped make Genesis such an enduring musical success story.... Melody atmospheres and rich chords/harmonies. Seven was a bit dark but showed tremendous promise. The question many of his fans were asking was, "What next?"
Well quite a few years later comes this! Six - A Suite For Orchestra. It's been well worth the wait as this is a very accomplished suite with all the three aforementioned attributes, but with two added ingredients. An ear for a solo instrumental performance and seamless variations.
Tony has been very brave in all six movements particularly with the violin and saxophone pieces. Here Tony has excelled in his writing that makes up for what was missing from Seven. If Tony considers making another classical album (...and please do Tony!) this is an area that that will bring added musical pleasure to the listener.
This is a very colourful, bright and vivid suite that deserves to be listened to by connoisseurs and newcomers to orchestral alike. Tony Banks has consistently wrote memorable melodies with Genesis. Now it has finally been translated into this excellent work. Credit also goes to the conductor and the orchestra for bringing this suite to life.
