Album Review

For their second album, ABC toned down the synths and turned up the guitars, making an inconsistent set of rocking, Roxy-styled pop that does have its impressive moments, particularly the single "That Was Then but This Is Now."

Best Album Of The 80's?

I bought this album when it first came out in the 80's solely on the strength of Lexicon Of Love. I rushed straight home for my local WHSmith threw it on the record player and in all fairness it probably didnt come of it for another 2 weeks. Its on my ipod even now after 20 years, an absolute classic although not as instantly accessable as Lexicon it has stood the test of time better and in my own humble opinion is one of the better albums to have been made in the 80's.

Overlooked gem.

I think this is a great album. It’s a different beast to Lexicon and seems to have aged better. It definitely over reaches in some areas – but it also benefits from not being constrained by the ‘concept’ idea that defines Lexicon. It’s a slow burn and repays the investment. PS. The production still sounds great after 26 years.

Better than I expected

Have no idea why this album didn't sell better - its maybe not that 'instant' but it is ok. Some nice tunes - and quite avant garde for its era - some nice Roland TR808 beat box stuff on SOS

During the late '70s, Fry ran his own fanzine, Modern Drugs, while he attended Sheffield University....
