Just as the Squeeze reunion picked up steam, Glenn Tilbrook issued Pandemonium Ensues, a spirited pop album that stands in direct contrast to his former and future partner Chris Difford's wry, low-key The Last Temptation of Chris. The title's a giveaway: Tilbrook is out to wreak a little havoc, perhaps not as lewdly as he did last time around, when his good times flirted with pornography and barrels of booze. No, this time things are a little more pulled together, if not exactly streamlined, reveling in their ragged loose ends and missed connections. At first, it doesn't seem like Pandemonium is quite so loose as it opens with a bracing dose of pop, but things soon get a little odd, first as Glenn turns the microphone over to Fluffer bassist Lucy Shaw to sing lead on the first of two songs, then later by bringing in Vanessa Paradis for "Interest & Love" and then her husband Johnny Depp for the spacy Joe Meek homage of the closer, "Too Close to the Sun." While this makes the album a little odd, even lopsided, it does give Pandemonium Ensues considerable charm: it's not as woolly as his last album, but it's warmer and funnier, a party that wraps up at midnight instead of 3 A.M..
Pandamonium in the charts - get this to No 1
By far the best of Glenns solo albums the first was great, the second, excellent, but this is simply different class. The Fluffers are renound musicians in their own right and the sense of fun and brilliant playing from the band comes across in abundance on this album. Steven large brings a fantastic dimention, almost jools like, to the band and Glens voice is the best ive heard it in thirty odd years. Most albums have one or two tracks that sound like fillers but this is the exception, every track is a classic. PS. for previous reviewers Too close to the sun is the last track that shows off the energy of the band similar to One for the road from the last album it ends on an instrumental and goes down a storm live. It also boasts a narration from Johnny Depp. The things that stand this album head and shoulders above the rest are the brilliant songs, brilliant vocals, amazing backing vocals and of course Glenn Tilbrook. Nuff said.
I have listened to the album a couple of times now and for anybody who likes Squeeze, Difford and Tilbrook etc like I do then you will not be disappointed. Tilbrook does have a way with a tune but then Chris Difford has recently made a solo album full of great tunes as well. D & T are one of our best song-writing partnerships so come on guys.... how about a new Squeeze album please. Only one complaint- what is "Too Close to the Sun" all about ? no discernible tune and out of place with the rest of the album.

Black Sheep - genius. This album makes me smile! Great song writing as ever. Kooky. Nursery Rhymes for adults, in a good way.
