Sizzla The High Priest.

Sizzla Kalonji ( the element of suprise ) I first heard of Sizzla some 5 yrs ago when I first heard this title track from this album and yet it was to be another 4 yrs before I got round to purchasing a copy myself. If you are reading this and wondering what this has to do with this review it is simply to say do not make the same mistake that I did.
Sizzla was being hailed as one of the new dons from Jamaica a man who came with lyrics and performances full of fire and purposeful energy, but it is the content of his lyrics that grab the listener and force them to confront issues that for to long have been ignored, the poverty and struggle of the ghetto youth in Jamaica and the pride of being not just being a blackman but an African. The tenderness with whitch he sings of his love for the country he calls mama Africa and his love for his woman and child.

His unapologetic no holds barred praise for HIM Selassie 1 and his Rastafari faith all culminate in the coming together of a man who is indeed a new don amoung the Jamaican dj's and a true ray of hope for anyone who has thought they are in a hopeless situation.
