"Blindspot" - Initial Interim Findings.

"Blindspot", the new studio album from Belfast boxing promoter turned singer Dan Michelson is an intriguing mix of songs, and the gaps between those songs that tell you when each one has finished. Perhaps one day Michaelson will compile those gaps and the ones on his previous albums into an album of their own. I have no idea, now stop going on about it and will you please move your car, I am expecting a delivery.

People sometimes talk about the A-Z of music, but that is wrong as music only goes up to G Sharp and then starts again at A, as if no-one had been looking. And so it is here. (Of course there is also the HMV of music, but most of them closed.)

For this reviewer at least, Michaelson's album conjures many things. The image of a child hiding under a desk at a carnival. The look on the face of a Mormon being chased along a corridor by someone he had previously thought was selling insurance.

If “Blindspot” was a bird it might swoop, flutter, land on a branch for a moment, chirp, think about hopping onto another branch just slightly lower down and to one side a bit but probably decide against it and stay sitting where it was until it saw a cat.

“It’s like a stab in the musical viscera with an ice onion” said a close personal friend after listening to “Blindspot” (although talking about something different.)
Enjoy.

Emotionally resonant, beautiful music

This is Dan's best album to date. Every song is perfectly crafted. His voice is pure cracking baritone bliss. The Coastguards add a layer of subtle sonic shades. If you like your music authentic and raw, this wont disappoint.

Wow!
