Alan Menken's music for Mirror Mirror, the slightly twisted take on the classic fairy tale Snow White, is often just as lush and romantic as the score to a more straightforward movie about princesses and wicked witches would be. Menken covers all the expected beats in a fairy tale movie, from the sweet sentimentality of "Love at First Sight" to the whimsy of "Beauty Treatment" to the sweeping menace of "The Queen Wants Snow Killed." Here and there, Menken adds touches that remind listeners that this is a comedic version of Snow White, but overall Mirror Mirror's music is more traditional than playful, which makes the inclusion of the brassy pop song "I Believe in Love" at the end of the album somewhat jarring.
You'd be cold blooded not to love this movie, especially not to love Lily. She has a good career ahead of her.
I believe in love!
The end song is something of a highlight and made me believe that such joyful sounds could fill the fantastical land of Snow White! Menken has composed another wondrous landscape and interestingly, away from Disney, yet this score and film feel as if it could have come out of the Disney camp, I am reminded of Tangled's edgy musical feel, while still staying true to the virtues we find attractive in a fairy tale, and Mirror Mirror continues in that style. Even if you don't fancy the score, the collaboration between Menken and Lilly Collins, in "I believe in Love" really is worth the purchase, the booming dance beats are infectious! Let's have a medieval rave baby!!
This film and the music is fantastic. Well done =P
Mirror Mirror is the best song i've heard for a while.
