pretty good!!

My dad is no fan of rock & pop but there are a few tracks on here that i might go for, this is a pretty good compilation with few if any duff tracks.

Generically Uninspiring - A Gimmick At Best

I'd love to say this album is more than just a fairly generic classic rock collection with a gimmick gift, but sadly it's pretty much just that.

Look through iTunes Store, or any good e-store, and look anywhere from the shelves of a supermarket, an all-night store or fuel station, and even dare i say - one of the rare beasts called 'record stores', and yep, you'll pretty much find comparable or even equivalent and sometimes better value collections which emcompass all this offers music-wise, if not even better a spread for about the same money, usually cheaper and that includes actual media (CD's these days).

It's only differing quality is the 'Haynes Manual' guide to rock - which in itself is pretty generic in it's content and pretty much tells you for a price what you could easily find for free, and despite the Haynes name - it's hardly a rock guide/rock history publication included with the music that lives up the quality of a Haynes manual (and let's face it, those speak for themselves and not badly at that).

When all is said and done - the title of the review says it all really. Just a quick-win cash in on Father's day type impulse buys - and i'm sure if you really give it more than a sec or two, you could probably source a CD set compile a pretty good History of Rock guide that actually might give a father the impression you made an effort instead of falling for a quick cash-in.

If you really want to just grab something off the shelf - i guess it makes a gift, i'd not buy it knowing damn well i could buy better many moons in my youth as a Father's Day gift, and easily could today.. and not spend the 'premium' for the convenience of a pre-cut download that offers zero value out of actually going out and buying the CD set and giftwrapping it for him along with a CD-ROM pre-recorded with lossless and compact m4a's.

1 Star because it's sooo generic it's mind-numbingly predictable, but it's really a zero-star rating on the grand scale - and i'm a big-time classic rock fan :(
