Editors’ Notes

The soundtrack for 2010’s Burlesque births collaboration between pop divas Cher and Christina Aguilera, the movie’s two main stars. Blending equal parts Moulin Rouge-style pizzazz and neo-soul à la Amy Winehouse, a larger-than-life cover of Etta James’ “Something’s Got a Hold On Me” sets the tone with Aguilera’s voice breaking in all the right spots under a pounding parlor piano and hard shuffling rhythms. Cher follows with “Welcome to Burlesque,” an enjoyable number with its gypsy fiddles and sultry cabaret tones. After taking on another James song with “Tough Lover” (dig the sassy horns on this one), Aguilera delivers a classic Broadway-inspired performance with “But I Am a Good Girl” before doing justice to Ralph Rainger’s Tin Pan Alley tune “Guy What Takes His Time,” sounding like a studio-enhanced upgrade on Mae West’s version from the 1933 film She Done Him Wrong. Cher puts the power back in the power ballad “You Haven’t Seen The Last of Me” prior to a partial cover of Marilyn Manson’s “The Beautiful People” that curiously bookends.

Bring it on

Wow, after Christina's lack luster 'Bionic' effort it's great to hear some 'bump and grind' that teases and shows off her voice without going too far. It's a short album and i'm sure there are some other songs in the movie that could have been added (by other performers) that said ,you can't help but dance around to this. Cher is fantastic, her two songs are worth the price of the album alone. She truly IS a legend and these two tracks show why. 'You haven't seen the last of me yet' is classic Cher. Awesome. I cannot wait for the movie now.. I'll be playing this from now till Christmas.. and beyond.

Welcome To Burlesque!!

Finishing off what could be described as not the best year, Christina Aguilera ends on a high with the soundtrack to her motion picture debut. In some repects 'Burlesque' could be described as 'Back To Basics' part II as it's sound marks a return to the same jazz/soul influenced music employed in her 2006 chart topper. Stand out tracks include the brilliantly entertaining 'Express' & 'Show Me How You Burlesque', the moving 'Bound To You' thats right up there with the best Aguilera ballad, the Etta James cover 'Somethings Got A Hold On Me' and the anthemic 'The Beautiful People'.
These 5 songs alone stand as shinning examples as to why Aguilera is thought of as the greatest singer of this generation. The 2 tracks sung by Cher, the first originals in 7 years, will also not dissapoint any of her own fans. Excellent soundtrack to match 2 excellent voices!!
