iTunes Editors' Notes

From the opening riff and the lyrics, "Gotta meet the hottie with the million dollar body/ They say it's over budget/ But you'd pay her just to touch it", you pretty much know what you're in for with Nickelback's sixth studio album. This unapologetically loud outing is a denim-clad performance built to blast while tailgating in stadium parking lots. And if the mix sounds even more boisterously radio-friendly than 2005's multi-platinum All The Right Reasons, that's because Nickelback hired Mutt Lange (most noted for his work with AC/DC, Def Leppard, and Bryan Adams) to co-produce Dark Horse. "Burn It To The Ground" is a similarly heavy, post-grunge rocker with pounding rhythms, sinister lyrics and serpentine melodies. And of course the band returns to the kinds of ballads that made All The Right Reasons so successful. The emotional "Gotta Be Somebody" would do well on a soundtrack to any one of those melodramatic television shows about attractive high school kids, and the catchy "Never Gonna Be Alone" will inevitably be covered by fields of American Idol applicants.

Dark Horse

Nickelback are back with their 6th Studio album, Dark Horse. With their last album came new fame for Nickelback with the mega selling hit Rockstar, (which I don’t think any will forget in a hurry!). And 3 years later and the re-release of Photograph and Far Away, they have finally brought new material out. Dark Horse is similar to All the Right Reasons with it mix of sound. There are some metal, soft rock and country style songs and this album has a lot of adult lyrics in. which you can probably tell by the title of the opening song. Something In Your Mouth is one of the heaviest songs on the album and is very catchy. It is sounds similar to Animals and has similar adult themed lyrics. Burn it to the Ground is another heavy sounding sound, with a great heavy sounding riff and a chorus that everyone can sing along to. Gotta Be Somebody is their first release from the album, it has come with a lot of mixed review. I have heard people saying that it is too mainstream, but to me it is a really good song. And I am glad that they have brought out new material, instead of re-releasing songs from All The Right Reasons. I’d Come For You is the first softer track on the album. It is one of my favourite songs on the album, if you liked Savin’ Me of How You Remind Me, this is for you. Next Go Round is another brilliant heavy song with more adult themed lyrics. It sounds like a mix between Someone That You’re With and Next Contestant, and it has a great solo. Just To Get High is one of the best songs on the album. It sounds like a cross between Where Do I Hide and Too Bad. Never Gonna Be Alone is one of the softest songs on the album. Sounds similar to Photograph in its sound. Shakin’ Hands is another rocky song that is very catchy. 7/10. S.E.X. is another favourite of mine. It has a heavy guitar sound and the song is incredible. If Today Was Your Last was the original song planned to be released first but was scrapped for Gotta Be Somebody. I don’t know why though because it is an awesome song. It is another softer rock sound similar to Savin’ Me and Far Away. This Afternoon is the country sounding song. I am not to keen on this song for Nickelback, it sounds wrong from their sound. It is an ok song but it is just not the sound I am used to. From the first listen of the album, it is very good. There are some similarities in the sounds of the songs to songs off All The Right Reasons, but apart from that it is great. Dark Horse gets 9/10. Top 6 1 – Gotta Be Somebody 2 – S.E.X. 3 – I’d Come For You 4 – Something In Your Mouth 5 – If Today Was Your Last Day 6 – Burn It To The Ground Song Ratings Something In Your Mouth - 9.5/10 Burn It To The Ground - 9/10 Gotta Be Somebody - 10/10 I'd Come For You - 10/10 Next Go Round - 8/10 Just To Get High - 10/10 Never Gonna Be Alone - 9.5/10 Shakin' Hands - 7/10 S.E.X. - 10/10 If Today Was Your Last Day - 9/10 This Afternoon - 6/10

One of their Best

I was unsure what this album was going to throw up when I heard Gotta be Somebody. Its a great song but it made me think that 'what if the whole album similar' - i feared they would stray into too much soft rock and leave their hard rock/metal roots. To my relief though - the album is brillaint. The Nickelback albums of old 'The Long Road' - 'Silver Side Up' and more recently 'All the Right Reasons' have been great albums with their heavy sound and dark themes. This album is slightly lighter but only slightly. This album is dark and sexy and really is fantastic to listen to. I though nothing would beat All the Right reasons but this album is up there with it. By blending metal with some catchy riffs and lyrics Nickelback have changed their sounds slighty to make it more fresh and exciting to listen to. Something in your mouth is a perfect example, heavysound with some cathcy lyrics and excellant guitar playing. Bur it to the ground has some excellant guitar playing and again great lyrics and will sure be a great stadium anthem, which brings me on to my next point. This album loses the intimacy of the last albums but I think that the songs on this album will surely become fan favourites and alos live favourites. The past albums (except All the RIght Reasons) started to lose their punch towards the edn fo the album. This one however is paced just right and the album is a rock rollercoaster from beginnign to end. The softer songs are also a major achievement, beautifully played sang. Overall a class Album that sits up there with the best of them, a contender for album of the year. This album is brillaint and definately ONE OF THEIR BEST

Trully Amazing

They cant help but to get better and better, cannot pick a fav song the album is that gd but if had to choose be between Burn It To The Ground, Gotta Be Somebody, Something In Your Mouth or If Today Was Your Last Day. Biography

Formed: 1996 in Hanna, Alberta, Canada

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Few bands did more than Nickelback to establish the force of slick, commercially minded post-grunge in the 2000s. Led by vocalist Chad Kroeger, the band initially emerged in the late '90s as Canada's answer to Creed, prizing a blend of gruff vocals and distorted (yet radio-friendly) guitars. After a handful of singles failed to gain much traction in Canada, "How You Remind Me" caught hold in 2001, eventually topping the charts in several countries while gathering four Grammy nominations and four...
