Album Review

Verve's Master Edition of the Oscar Peterson Trio date released as Night Train includes stately covers of blues and R&B standards like "The Honeydripper," "C-Jam Blues," "Georgia on My Mind," "Bags' Groove," "Moten Swing," and "Things Ain't What They Used to Be." Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen provide tight accompaniment, and there are six previously unavailable tracks recorded the same day, including "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" and "Volare," as well as alternate takes of "Happy-Go-Lucky Local" and "Moten Swing."

Great Stuff

I can't very much speak for the album in its entireity, and would most likely not do it enough justice. But for those among you who watch "House M.D.", you might remember the song that House played before poker night, just alone, fiddling on his piano (Hymn to Freedom). Originally inspired by MLK Jnr's work in his fight against segregation and racism, this is great - something both calming and at the same time inspirational.

Musical perfection

Having listened to thousands of recordings over many years i always come back to the Oscar Peterson Night Train album, sublime emotive music it really does not get any better than this!

Oscar, aka God

This album is the meaning of jazz, laid back, bluesy, tight- how you can be this tight at the same time as being so laid back i do not know. This album has the blues, which every album/artist needs!that is not opinion it is fact, Oscar chucks the licks in and it really hits you, he's the man.Night Train is sublime. If you love this album, get Lester Young with the Oscar Peterson Trio, ad lib blues is wonderful.Oscar is God, cam x

Oscar Peterson was one of the greatest piano players of all time. A pianist with phenomenal technique on the level of his idol, Art Tatum, Peterson's speed, dexterity, and ability to swing at any tempo were amazing. Very effective in small groups, jam sessions, and in accompanying singers, O.P. was at his absolute best when performing unaccompanied solos. His original style did not fall into any specific idiom. Like Erroll Garner and George Shearing, Peterson's distinctive playing formed during the...
