About Mahan Esfahani

Harpsichordist and organist Mahan Esfahani was raised in Tehran, and he received his earliest musical training from his father. He pursued musicology and history at Stanford University, and George Houle, Heather Hadlock, Elaine Thornburgh, Herbert Myers, and Adam Gilbert were among his teachers. He continued his postgraduate studies in harpsichord with Peter Watchorn, Lorenzo Ghielmi, and Zuzana Ruzicková. From 2008 to 2010, Esfahani was artist-in-residence at New College, Oxford, as well as a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist. His debuts at Wigmore Hall, the BBC Proms, and New York's Frick Collection brought him international attention. He launched his recording career with Hyperion, performing Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Wurttemburg Sonatas and the complete keyboard music of Jean-Philippe Rameau. In 2014, he signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon, and in 2015 he began teaching harpsichord at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. That same year, he was named Newcomer of the Year by BBC Music Magazine. ~ Blair Sanderson
